Designing Nature In - Nature Based Solutions (NBS) Toolkit is an educational initiative sponsored by Engineers without Borders Ireland, Irish Aid, Solid Ground (an EU funded project) and TU Dublin.
During the design consultation phase we formulated the idea of using a board game to help students understand the processes and concepts for using nature in building sustainable communities in various scenarios.
The package contains a game board and cards with reference books to clarify concepts. The cards provide an overview of the sustainability solutions across six key areas - Shelter, Water Supply, Used Water Management, Organic Waste Management, Food Security and, Energy and Comfort. These are cross-referenced with a tabbed guide book containing more detailed information.
Design Nature In - NBS Toolkit has provided a valuable guide for illustrating the processes available when specifying sustainable infrastrusture that benefits the environment, society and individuals.
